A life designed with intention is something I have spent a lifetime figuring out. When I was younger, and really up until my late twenties, I was a floater. I had no intention other than living in the moment and having fun. This was a beautiful way to live during those magical times of youth and discovery but as I grew older I could feel that something was missing. Time was passing at a dizzying speed. I was stressed by my lack of planning. My monthly bills and frivolous spending far exceeded my monthly income. My body was being fueled by sugar and fast food and I can’t tell you if a whole food ever made it through my digestive tract. I wasn’t sleeping well because my body didn’t know what rest was and I was consuming Red Bull and vodka shots until the morning hours. Life was passing me by and I felt like I was merely a spectator of my life instead of the creator.
As strange as it may sound, my need for change was influenced by my Pinterest boards. I viewed my Pinterest boards as a reflection of the best version of me, the me that I wanted to be. I pinned how to clean my home, how to be smarter with money, how to eat whole foods that would fuel my body, and how to be a more mindful parent. This along with learning from some amazing mentors, reading countless books on self growth, taking in person and online courses on personal development, and an abundance of reflection time have brought me to a place where I am in the driver’s seat of my life. Everyday I make a choice to live in a way that is aligned with some aspect of the things that fulfill and/or fuel me. The things that fuel me are my goals or where I want to be in three months, six months, or three years. The things that fulfill me are the things that make me feel whole and happy. This is going to be different for everyone but for me it is daily movement, outside time connecting with nature, music, reading and quiet time.
My days are not perfect. And I myself am beautifully imperfect. To live a life designed with intention means that each day I choose to move with purpose and alignment even if my movements are small. I don’t have to check off everything on my to do list or accomplish something huge towards my bigger goals to live with intention. Sometimes it is as simple as setting a boundary of recognizing that I’m too busy and knowing that a 20 minute walk outside will accomplish far more than cleaning off my kitchen counters. Sometimes it is cleaning off the counters because a clean space makes me feel good. Sometimes it is sitting with my kids and watching a movie. Sometimes it is reading a book. And even sometimes it is logging in and taking that class on lucid dreaming or whatever I fancy on my journey for personal development.
If you are feeling stuck, lost, or that you are floating about with no intention. I hope to use this space to continue to grow and develop what it means to live a life that is designed with intention. Each person’s journey is unique and so ideas that are shared on this space are there for you to leave or take with you. There is no right or wrong way to do things. Recognizing what makes you feel aligned and whole is where your journey begins. Start small and celebrate your accomplishments as you recognize that daily choices become a life!
